Assessment Types & Costs
Insurance
We participate with several insurance companies and health insurance can be used to help pay for an assessment for your child. However, there are limitations on what insurance will cover, and most do not pay for services that are expected to be provided by the school (e.g., learning disability testing). If you are using health insurance benefits, we will confirm coverage and any out of pocket expenses before the first appointment.
Standard Child Neurodiversity Assessment
This assessment includes an interview with the parent(s) or guardian, the collection of information from the various sources from within and outside of the home, followed by an assessment of the child. The assessment focuses on identifying a basic diagnostic profile for your child. It does NOT include cognitive or academic testing. The cost of the standard assessment is $750 and is paid at the time the appointment is booked.
Comprehensive Child Neurodiversity Assessment
This assessment focuses on providing a comprehensive diagnostic profile for your child. In addition to the assessment covered by the standard assessment, this option also includes cognitive (IQ) and academic (Learning Disability) testing. The cost of the comprehensive assessment is $1,500.
Assessment Steps
Initial Assessment Interview (Guardians / Collateral Only)
For all of our child/adolescent assessments, we begin with an initial assessment interview with the parent(s) and any others who are responsible for the child’s affairs. During the initial interview, information will be gathered about symptoms and difficulties, personal and medical history as well as information about other relevant factors (e.g., other mental health conditions).
To help facilitate efficient and timely completion of the assessment, we ask that you come to the meeting prepared to describe in detail your concerns about your child and please bring copies of any documentation of past assessment or treatment services and any reports from the school that are relevant.
Collecting Information
The assessment of children involves collecting information about how the child/adolescent functions in more than one setting and this is accomplished using a variety of questionnaires.
Typically, we have one or more family members provide information about how the child/adolescent functions in the home setting, and we have one or more individuals from the school complete questionnaires about how the child/adolescent functions in the school setting. If someone from the school is not available, an individual who sees the child/adolescent regularly outside of the home can be used as an alternative source of information. The goal is to collect the information from the various sources before the child/adolescent is seen for the assessment.
Child/Adolescent Assessment
When all of the questionnaires are completed, we will reach out to schedule an assessment interview with the child/adolescent. Depending on what is required, additional assessment appointments with the child/adolescent may be required.
Diagnostic Report
After the assessment interviews have taken place, and all the additional information has been collected, a report will be generated that includes any appropriate diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
Medication
If medication treatment is desired for any of the mental health conditions that are diagnosed, you need to contact an appropriate medical professional to discuss that option. At The Neurodiversity Clinic, we do not prescribe medications.

Supporting Your Child’s School Transition
Are you wondering whether a different school environment might help your child thrive, rediscover their love of learning, and reach their full potential? Many parents face this decision, and there are a number of valid reasons why requesting a school transfer may be in your child’s best interest.
Common Reasons Families Consider Changing Schools
1. Declining Mood and Motivation
If your child is increasingly unhappy at school, it may be a sign the current environment isn’t meeting their needs. School experiences have a lasting impact on mental health, self-esteem, and overall outlook. A more supportive, inclusive setting can help your child feel valued, accepted, and motivated again.
2. Learning Style Mismatch
Every child learns differently. If your child’s strengths are not being met in their current classroom—whether they are visual, auditory, or hands-on learners—they may struggle to stay engaged. A school with smaller classes, individualized instruction, or flexible teaching methods may be a better fit.
3. Lack of Academic Progress
If your child’s progress has stalled—whether they are falling behind or not being challenged enough—it may be time to seek a school that can provide appropriate academic support or enrichment. A new environment can reignite their curiosity and help them reach their academic potential.
4. Concerns About Safety
A child who feels unsafe at school cannot focus on learning. Bullying, lack of inclusion, or other safety concerns are important reasons parents choose to move their child. A safer, more supportive environment allows students to focus on growth and achievement.
5. Unmet Needs or Accommodations
If your child requires an IEP, 504 plan, or other accommodations that are not being provided, it can hold back their progress. Choosing a school that can properly support their unique needs can transform their learning experience and set them up for success.
6. Practical and Family Considerations
Sometimes, life circumstances such as relocation, commute challenges, extracurricular commitments, or health needs make a school change the best option. Finding a school that works with your family’s schedule and priorities can restore balance and reduce stress.
